Extremists Threaten to Burn Gospel For Asia Missionaries
Two young women from a Gospel for Asia Bible college were chased and threatened by 70 anti-Christian extremists after conducting a worship service in Orissa, India. Chunile Wyn and Preeja Sushan are student missionaries serving their internships in Orissa. On Sunday, the extremists entered the building where the women were worshipping with 15 other believers. The radicals carried sticks and stones, but the Christians escaped the church unharmed. However, Chunile and Preeja were still in the building, and the anti-Christians surrounded them and shouted threats. “We will burn you alive like Graham Staines and his children” they shouted at the women. Graham Staines, an Australian missionary in Orissa, was burned to death in 1999. Religious extremists set fire to the vehicle Staines and his two young sons were sleeping in, killing them all. Christians Attacked in Bhutan – Gospel for Asia
Two Christian families were physically attacked and kicked out of their homes after they chose to follow Christ. These two families live in Bhutan. Gospel for Asia missionaries Lali Bharose and Ekta Surgari, who recently began ministering in their village, shared the Gospel with these families and they chose to follow Christ. On Saturday, April 12, their fellow villagers attacked the new Christians and forced them out of the village. They also told Lali and Ekta to leave the village. Less than one percent of Bhutan’s residents claim to follow Christ. Sharing the Gospel with people who follow the two traditional religions in the country is illegal. Tribal Villager Murders Christian Brother
Compass Direct News reports: NEW DELHI – Believing that his brother’s Christian faith was black magic that resulted in the death of his teenage daughter, a tribal villager in Dhar district, Madhya Pradesh state on April 3 killed Thakur Sing Bhil with an arrow shot to the chest, relatives said. Bhil, also known as Thakur Baba, was a Christian leader from Gatiya Dev village who had faced opposition from relatives after converting to Christianity. He was estimated to be 55 years old. At home at the time of the murder were Bhil’s wife, Inda Pasaha Bhil, and son, Pangu Singh Bhil. They said Bhil’s brother, 45-year-old Mangar Singh, entered their house at noon in a drunken rage and shot an arrow into Bhil’s chest from close range. Algerian Christian Sentenced for Proselytism
Compass Direct News reports that: An Algerian Christian was handed a two-year suspended sentence for “proselytism” yesterday amid an ongoing government crackdown on 26 of Algeria’s 50 Protestant congregations, a church leader said. A court in Tiaret, 150 miles southwest of Algiers, delivered the written verdict yesterday after convicting the Christian on April 2, said Mustapha Krim, president of the Protestant Church of Algeria (EPA). Prosecution of “proselytism” violates Article 18 of the U.N. Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which affirms the inherent right to publicly manifest one’s faith. Bible College Students Attacked in Orissa, India
Two Gospel for Asia Bible college students were attacked April 5 by anti-Christian extremists in Orissa, India. The two students, Dileshi Sahu and Reban Tamag, were handing out Gospel tracts and Bibles when a group of extremists physically attacked them and accused the two men of forcing people to convert to Christianity. The missionary trainees told their attackers that they were not forcing anyone to take the tracts, but were only sharing the joy that they had experienced. The religious radicals refused to listen.
