Christian Priest Gunned Down in Baghdad

By Jeremy Reynalds Correspondent for ASSIST News Service CHRISTIAN PRIEST GUNNED DOWN IN BAGHDAD (ANS) — Gunmen shot dead an Iraqi priest in a drive-by attack in central Baghdad on Saturday, police said, in the latest attack on Christians in the country. According to a story by Aws Qusay on the Reuters News Service, the priest, Adel Yousif, was gunned down near his home in central Baghdad. Cardinal Emmanuel III Delly, leader of Iraq’s largest Christian denomination, the Chaldean Catholics, told Reuters that Yousif was a member of the Syrian Orthodox church. China Detains 13 House Church Leaders in Sichuan Province

By Dan Wooding Founder of ASSIST Ministries SICHUAN, CHINA ANS — China Aid Association CAA says that it has learned that 13 house church leaders were detained at Qu county, Sichuan province on Sunday, March 30. “According to an eyewitness within the church there, around 3pm on Saturday, March 29th, a house church service was attacked during their praise and worship service,” said a spokesperson for CAA. “The church is in Qu county, Dazhou city which is a six hour drive from Chengdu city, Sichuan Province. “Seven believers were taken by a group of people who claimed to be from local religious affairs bureau, community administration and national security. 110 Churches Forced to Close in Indonesia Over Last Three Years

Compass Direct News reports that: Islamic extremist groups and local governments in Indonesia closed 110 churches from 2004 to 2007, according to religious and human rights organizations. The Wahid Institute, a moderate Muslim non-governmental organization, along with the Communion of Churches of Indonesia (Persekutuan Gereja-Gereja di Indonesia), the Bishops’ Conference of Indonesia (Konferensi Waligereja Indonesia) and the Indonesian Human Rights Commission reported that discrimination and violence against churches was most common in the provinces of West Java, Banten, Central Java, South Sulawesi and Bengkulu. Radical Muslim groups attacking churches included the Islamic Defender Front (Front Pembela Islam, or FPI), the Indonesian Mujahidin Council, Hizbullah Front, Muslim Clergy Members Forum (Forum Ulama Umat Islam) and the Muslim Safety Forum (Dewan Keamanan Masjid). GFA Film Team Released from Jail after Sharing the Gospel

Four members of a Gospel for Asia film team have been released from jail, but not before they were able to share the Gospel with those who arrested them. The four-member team was arrested and falsely charged with forcing people to convert to Christianity on Friday, March 28, in Madya Pradesh, India. The men were showing a film about the life of Christ when they were arrested. The police also beat the missionaries after they were in custody. But then, during their first night in jail, the officers asked the team if they could watch their film about the life of Christ! The missionaries gladly showed the movie to the audience of police personnel, including the District Superintendent of Police!
