Degar Christians Murdered By Vietnamese Police

By Jeremy Reynalds Correspondent for ASSIST News Service SPARTANBURG, SOUTH CAROLINA (ANS) — A Degar Christian was recently tortured and killed by Vietnamese security police. According to a news release from the Montagnard Foundation, the murder of Y-Cung Nie occurred on April 14 after his involvement in a demonstration protesting the arrest of three Christians who had been arrested a few days previously. The Degar (or Montagnards) are the indigenous peoples of the Central Highlands of Vietnam. The mission of the Montagnard Foundation is to protect the lives and culture of the Montagnard people. Following the demonstration, Y-Cung Nie returned to his village and went home. Church Demolished by Radical Hindus in India

By James Varghese Special to ASSIST News Service ANDHRA PRADESH, INDIA (ANS) — A group of Hindu radicals demolished a church which was under construction. The incident occurred on Aug. 17 in Uppal Hills in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India. The demolished facility was called “Jesus Prayer House Church.” According to a story on www.persecution.in, about 20 Hindu radicals from Rashtriya Swayam Sevaks (RSS) and the Bharatiya Janatha Party entered the building currently used for worship, and yelled at Pastor David Raj for conducting services there. They then ran to the new building and destroyed it. The story reported that the Hindus pushed the pastor to the ground, and ignored his plea to leave the new building alone. Evangelist beaten up by Hindu radicals in Karnataka, India

By James Varghese Special to ASSIST News Service KARNATAKA, INDIA (ANS) – A Christian evangelist was beaten up by a group of Hindu radicals in Gadag in Karnataka state India on August 20. According to a news issued by the website www.persecution.in, evangelist Nagaraj Yellappa Limbuji (27 years) was conducting his regular tuition and prayer for the village students in a village called Chikka Savananoor village. At about 6.30 pm, a group consisting of 15 to 20 Hindu radicals came to the premises and started intimidating and beating him accusing of forceful conversion. Detained Yemeni Christians Face Possible Torture and Death

(ANS) — A human rights group has learned that Yemeni authorities continue to detain Christians who convert from Islam to Christianity. Yemen is located in the Middle East, bordering the Arabian Sea, Gulf of Aden and Red Sea, between Oman and Saudi Arabia. In recent news releases, International Christian Concern (ICC) reported on the detention of seven Christians by Yemeni authorities. In its most recent news release, ICC said that the Associated Press (AP) and Fox News have started to follow the story. According to the AP, an unidentified Yemeni authority admitted that his country had detained nine Christian converts from Islam between May and August 2008. China Plans Crackdown on House Church Leaders

By Jeremy Reynalds Correspondent for ASSIST News Service SURREY, ENGLAND (ANS) — At the height of the Beijing Olympics there is news emerging of a secret directive indicating a nationwide campaign to crack down on four groups considered to be “unstable social elements” by the Chinese authorities. Human rights organization Christian Solidarity Worldwide (CSW) said in a news release that according to a report from China Aid Association (CAA) the directive, issued by the Political and Legal Committee of the Central Committee of the CPC, targets house church leaders, petitioners, human rights defenders and political dissidents.
