Missionary, Wife and Students Beaten by Radicals
UTTAR PRADESH, INDIA (GFA) – Gospel for Asia missionary Sursen and his wife, Nirmala—along with two Bible college students, Jolen and Kushal—were beaten by a mob of religious extremists on October 5 in Uttar Pradesh, India. The attacks came as the group was praying before their regular Sunday morning worship service. A mob of about 300 people descended on the Christians in an orchestrated attack. The extremists beat them up and handed them over to the police for arrest under false accusations of terrorism. GFA field leaders went to the police office and spoke with authorities on the missionaries’ behalf. By God’s grace, the missionaries and Bible college students were released from jail that evening and the situation calmed down. Hindu Radicals Disrupt Service and Have Pastor Arrested
By James Varghese Special to ASSIST News Service MADHYA PRADESH, INDIA (ANS) — A group of Hindu radicals disrupted a prayer service and had the pastor arrested. The Oct. 12 incident occurred in Dhamnod district in Madhya Pradesh State, India. According to a story on www.persecution.in, the disruption occurred when a member of Bajrang Dal, a Hindu radical group, observed a service at a house church pastored by Ganesh Kharade. The radical then left but returned, bringing with him ten more Bajrang Dal members and three police officers who disrupted the service. The story reported that as the attack took place some of the believers ran away, but police caught the pastor and two attendees. Police confiscated a few Bibles and some tracts. Prayer Team Beaten Mercilessly – Then Arrested
Compass Direct News reports: NEW DELHI – The Christian community of Chhattisgarh state is rattled after a gruesome mob attack and torture in Surguja district. At midnight on Oct. 3 in Dumarbhavna village, 110 kilometers 68 miles from Premnagar, three jeeps full of Hindu nationalists broke open the door of a house where a three-day prayer meeting was taking place and attacked participants as they slept – ultimately forcing two Christians to beat one of their own prayer partners unconscious under threat of death. Taliban Bombs Girls School in Pakistan
By Michael Ireland Chief Correspondent, ASSIST News Service PAKISTAN (ANS) — A Catholic-run girls’ school in Swat, North-West Frontier Province, was bombed yesterday (October 7) by Pakistani Taliban. Christian Solidarity Worldwide (CSW), says The Convent Girls’ School in Sangota, Swat, was bombed by local Taliban, and the school building destroyed, according to the Catholic Church’s National Commission for Justice and Peace (NCJP). CSW says no one was killed because the school, run by Sri Lankan Apostolic Carmelite Sisters, was closed at the time due to threats, and the Sisters had vacated the convent. In the past two years, more than 150 girls’ schools have been attacked in the North-West Frontier Province by Pakistani Taliban, the NCJP claims, CSW explained in a media release.
