Church Vandalized in Tamil Nadu, India

TAMIL NADU, INDIA ANS — Hindu activists vandalized a church in Tamil Nadu, leaving the Christian community in the area shocked.

The incident occurred on July 1.

According to a story on www.christiancouncil.in, the alleged vandals entered the church, breaking asbestos sheets on the roof and damaging the cross above the altar. The web site stated the vandals also damaged a cross outside the church.

According to the story, once the church leadership noticed the damage, they immediately went to the local police station and filed a complaint, alleging damage by anti-Christian elements in the area. The website reported that church authorities also filed a complaint with among others, the District Superintendent of Police, seeking immediate damages against the alleged perpetrators.

The web site reported that while the media highlighted the attack, no arrests have been made yet.

The web site reported that the All India Christian Council AICC has condemned the attack, and is asking the appropriate authorities to take quick action.

The story reported that an AICC spokesperson said, “The minority Christian community is under attack. It is time for the authorities to wake up, and provide adequate protection to the Christian community and their properties.”
