Missionaries Brutally Beaten, Flee to the Forest for Shelter

Gospel for Asia-supported missionaries Mohak Chavan and Ishayu Tambe had to hide out in a forest after enduring brutal beatings at the hands of anti-Christian extremists on September 4. The men had just returned from one prayer meeting and were leading another in a village in Rajasthan, India, when about 30 extremists barged into the room, shouting and speaking abusively against them. Then they beat the missionaries very badly.

By God’s grace, Mohak and Ishayu managed to escape and flee for refuge into the dense forest. It was raining that evening as the two men took shelter under the trees. One of them contacted a GFA state field leader on his mobile phone to report the incident, but before they could finish the conversation, his phone battery died.

Finally, around 11 p.m., the people from the local church were able to find the missionaries, and they spent the night in the home of one of the believers.

GFA leaders ask for prayer for the Lord’s protection on these missionaries and the others who are sharing Christ’s redeeming love on the challenging mission field of Rajasthan. Pray, too, that their ministries will continue to grow.
