ANDHRA PRADESH, INDIA ANS - Hindu radicals reportedly assaulted a missionary recently.
The attack occurred on July 10 in Dandu Mylavaram village, Rangareddy district, Andhra Pradesh state.
According to a story on www.persecution.in, Pastor Jayaraj, 40, of Vishwa Vani Mission was attacked by a group of 10 Hindu radicals.
They barged into the minister’s house, grabbed his shirt, dragged him out and beat and kicked him. The website also reported that the radicals accused Jayaraj of forced conversion, and threatened him with dire consequences if he continued to preach in that village.
The story gave the reason for the attack. Eighteen months prior, Jayaraj had applied to the Revenue Office for permission to build a church. The government gave land, and written permission to build the church.
According to the story, when the Hindu radicals found out about this, they were very upset because they had buried someone on the land where the church was going to be built.
The pastor had already questioned the Hindu radicals about this issue. He had been assaulted twice prior to the most recent attack. The extremists, the story reported, had told the pastor that if he failed to leave the village that he and his family would be buried on the same space as the dead body. However, www.persecution.in reported, when the villagers gathered around them the radicals left.
According to the story, prior to the threats and assaults, Jayaraj was ministering in his house to about 50 families. However, as a result of the threats, many people have quit coming to the prayer meeting. Jayaraj and his family are very fearful about what the future holds.
