Message From the Mayor: Downtown Main Street Construction

(upbeat music) – [George] One of the things I
loved about Buda when I first came through here was Main Street. I mean, the historic buildings and everything that are available here and when you look at the architecture, and it just, I loved it. It was like a small town
right outside of Austin. We’re going through a
period of growing pains. I mean I hate to keep saying that, but like all growth spurts you get to that clumsy period
of tripping over your own self and then finally you
get this beautiful life. Over the past few years we’ve
seen this rapid expansion in the variety of shops that we have and restaurants and if you look at it from one end of Main all the way to 35, there’s construction, but there are new businesses being opened, and it’s very important
for us to realize that these are our neighbors
that own these companies and these buildings and the businesses. And then, they help us just
as much as we help them. So it’s really important for
us to keep coming down here. The fence, don’t let it fool ya. That orange fence is not
there as a barricade from keeping you out, those
businesses are open, all of them are open. One of the concerns that
we’re having right now is that the lunch crowd, the lunch
traffic is actually falling off quite a bit. And they need your support. These businesses are open for us to enjoy a good quality meal in town. And it’s very important
for us to keep bringing our lunch time traffic
to these restaurants, to these businesses, so that they are feeling the support of the community. Parking along Main obviously
is an issue right now. But if you look, as you drive down Main, there’s parking available
on the east side. Where the old City Hall used to be. There’s parking all the way down. The vision that I think
everyone on council, everybody had this idea that let’s restore it to what it was. Back in the day, they didn’t
have air conditioning. But they built awnings on the
front of all the buildings, and so you had a covered, shaded stroll. And we still have that. And so once all the construction is done, we’ll have a nice, wide
sidewalk that’s safe for families to stroll along, see the areas, or sitting down and enjoying an evening. So it’s gonna be really
nice once it’s done. Just everybody has to
have a little patience. (upbeat music)
