Steven Dean on why current events make it an exciting time to be a tax professor

This is a great time to be a tax
professor because the questions that we're interested in — questions of power
and privilege and information — are in the news. The questions of the president's
tax returns — will we see them, and when we see them, what will they show us — is an
incredibly interesting question, not just to those of us who have always been
interested in those sorts of questions but to everyone these days. What is
especially interesting to a tax professor and maybe to tax lawyers is to
think about how the public focus on the president's returns will impact the
structure of our laws. What will our information disclosure and access to
information look like in the future?
